CHOIR DESCRIPTIONS

CHORALE

This is a mixed choir of students who are in 9th and 10th grade at CRHS-N.  (in 2003-2004 only 9th grade students will be enrolled) A variety of suitable literatures will be studied and performed in concert.  Classes will concentrate on individual vocal development with emphasis on breathing, diction, tone production and the development of musicality.  The choir meets on an alternate Day schedule during school hours and has one or two rehearsals after school or in the evening.  Participation in concerts, competitions, festivals, and other performance venues is expected from all members.  All members will have the opportunity to audition for Symphonic Choir after the completion of one year in Chorale.

SYMPHONIC CHOIR

This is a mixed auditioned choir comprised of mostly 11th and 12th grade students. (in 2003-2004 the choir will have 10th grade students enrolled) A variety of suitable literatures will be studied and performed in concert.   The choir meets on an alternate Day schedule during school hours and has one or two rehearsals after school or in the evening.  Participation in concerts, competitions, festivals, and other performance venues is expected from all members.

CONCERT CHOIR

This choir is for students who wish to explore the potential of their singing voice without extra rehearsals or a strenuous performance schedule.  Members will learn the basic skills of reading music and the fundamentals of singing.  This choir is open to all High School students and meets on an Alternate Day Schedule.

MASTERSINGERS

Mastersingers is the showcase choir at North.  Comprised of students from 9^th through 12^th grade, entrance is gained through a rigorous audition process.  Repertoire includes music from the Renaissance through the 20^th Century.  This choir is an SATB group.  Rehearsals take place every Monday from 2:30pm – 5:00pm and alternate Fridays from 2:30pm – 4:00pm.

NORTHERN LIGHTS

This is an all-women’s ensemble featuring SSAA voiced music.  Repertoire will include a variety of classical selections, folk music, Broadway songs and pop tunes.  Entrance is open to any female singer in 9^th through 12^th grade after successfully passing a voice test.  Rehearsals will take place on alternate Wednesdays after school. (2:30pm – 5:00pm)

NEWTOWN VILLAGERS

The Newtown Villagers is a choir dedicated to vocal jazz.  Entrance is restricted to students in 10^th through 12^th grade who successfully pass an audition.  The choir will have approximately 3 singers on each voice part for a total of 12 members.  Rehearsals take place on alternate Monday evenings from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
